Since the shuttle program will expire this year, time is running out for chances to watch the Space Shuttle take off, as there are only three scheduled launches left. One of the last launches will happen this Friday, May 14th at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The final two launches are scheduled for September and November of 2010.
This Friday's launch will shoot the Atlantis off on its STS-132 mission at 2:20 p.m. Six astronauts will embark on a 12 day mission in an effort to deliver an Integrated Cargo Carrier as well as a Russian Mini Research Module to the International Space Station!
There are several ways that you can watch one of these upcoming explosive events!
Buy a ticket in advance from the Kennedy Space Center by calling the Visitor Complex at 321-449-4444, although tickets for tomorrows launch is sold out, getting a head start on purchasing tickets for the next two launches is a good idea, as tickets will be selling fast.
A few other viewing areas are listed below:
- State Road 528 over the Indian River (the Bennett Causeway) and the Banana River
- Jetty Park at Port Canaveral, just south of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (Call 321-783-7111 for information regarding park hours and admission fees)
- Off State Road A1A along the Atlantic Ocean in Cocoa Beach
- Along the Indian River on U.S. Highway 1, especially in Titusville
Viewing a Space Shuttle launch is a memorable experience for both you and the family, with only three more chances left, you won't want to miss out on what could very well be considered a major part of American "history".
