Bloomberg News reported today: “Central banks flush with record reserves are increasingly snubbing dollars in favor of Euros and yen, further pressuring the dollar after its biggest two-quarter rout in almost two decades. World leaders are acting on threats to dump the dollar ...”
When the prices of natural resources—gas and oil, gold and silver and agricultural products— rises significantly, as they have so much recently, the stocks of those companies rise at a much faster pace than the resources themselves. In a Capitalist view on this what it means is that these companies then search for new oil and gas fields to drill and gold and silver mines to blast and forests to raze, and on and on and on and this old earth we live on may just not tolerate this any longer because of the absolute imbalance of drilling and blasting and burrowing into it that man has done for so many centuries now and so it looks to me—this is my own opinion—that we, the human race, are staring at some sort of Apocalypse—for lack of a better word—and if we, the human race, continue to allow the huge conglomerate corporations, in business for monetary profit at even the earth’s expense, to continue on in their nefarious ways then we are, indeed, doomed.
In other words, sooner or later, it is inevitable that we must—absolutely must—change our way of thinking, or we shall perish, because when the earth perishes we, obviously, will also perish. Look anywhere you wish and you will see investors and investing “experts” selling mining stocks and gold and steel and gas and oil stocks and bonds in Asia and all over the world; this disease is indeed global and it is, literally, earth-shattering, it will end the earth as we know it. When you see polar bears drowning because the polar ice-caps they used to live on are gone and when you see people dying from breathing the very air that has been so polluted that you can see it in front of your face and when you see investors and their salesmen hawking the very earth we live upon—and there is very little left of it to hawk—in order to profit—you must ask yourself what you can do and the only answer is to use your voice, however small you think it is, to help stop this insanity that may very well end the human race.
I am a lover of stories and still remember the fairy tales my mother used to read to me when I was a little boy and when I started writing poetry and short stories I considered writing some fantasy or science fiction but I quickly realized that real life, the truth, is far harder to believe and far scarier than any fantasy or science fiction I could ever dream up.
I hope we can stop the insanity and the corporations from dredging the oceans and bombing and blasting the earth and searching far and wide for “wealth,” because if we can’t then it won’t matter how much you have saved … how much you’ve got … how “smart” you’ve been … we live and die together on this planet and when an earthquake or a sinkhole ends your life than what good are all your precious stocks and bonds? We need money to live but what good is it and what good is your house if the very earth it is on is disintegrating before your very eyes? When’s the last time you saw a sink-hole ruin a house? When’s the last time you saw the owner of that sinkhole house collect insurance money and then sell it to someone else, who, buying it cheaply, will then build on it? It never ends … unless the system ends first.
