Even though my husband and I live in Weeki Wachee (Hernando County), we love to go to Tampa which only takes us 45 minutes on the Sun Coast Parkway which has no traffic. We are from Long Island, NY, so that in itself is a treat!
We went to see the Tall Ships on display at the Tampa Convention Center. Two of the ships are there and the Coast Guard Ship is about a 1/2 mile walk along the River Walk to the other ship. We go there around 11:00 a.m. and the cost was $10 a person to view the ships. We waited on the first line to see the Colombia Gloria (these ships were built in the 1930s) and it was about a 1/2 hour wait. It was quite humid, but it was something to see. We then went to the other ship and the wait was only five minutes.
We then took the River Walk which is a great walk except in humid weather to find out that the line to see the Coast Guard ship was about an hour long. We decided to have lunch at Channelside which has a large variety of restaurants (Bennigans, Tapia's, Gallagher's, Sushi place, Greek Place, Thai food, a rib place) among others.
The ships are there until Wednesday, July 14th. It does make a nice day out and it might not be as crowded.
