Politics vs The People

It's that time of year again when we will receieve our State Property Tax. If you're like me and a long time Florida resident then you probably had a rude awakening last year to find out that even with the increased homestead exemption and the substantial drop in property value, you still paid the same amount. How does this happen? I was told by the appraisers office that since I homestead the law give them the right to raise my value by three percent no provisions to adjust it down. And if that wasn't enough to make your blood boil the fact that an area was so depressed that not one sale of land in a small area kept them at a two year previously high speculation rate amounting to absurdity when the nearby golf course community with paved roads sewer and water were at half this undeveloped area. However according to the tax office it could not be used to justify a fair market value, no doubt as it was still worth more than twice the undeveloped area. What should we do? Drop our homestead? Fight City Hall?
