The ballots are in and vote was unanimous, the City of Ft. Lauderdale has officially declared a 344 acre area of central Ft. Lauderdale as "blighted"! Oh NO, you say? Oh YES! And this, my fellow apes, is great news! Now this area is a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) area that is eligible for grants as well as opportunities for city property tax monies to be redirected to create improvements!
Most of the improvements will be focused on 13th St, creating a bustling business corridor. Spiffying up the joint will spread to the surrounding community, including the new CRA area that 13th St. cuts through the center of. These improvements will spread to NW Ft. Lauderdale, Progresso and Flagler village, west of US1 and north of Broward Blvd. The next area of focus will be the beach!
Broward County Commissioners have stated that now is the time to create a new redevelopment zone, as the real estate market is well on the road to recovery.
