I know when I was having a difficult time because my Dad had Alzheimer's and I felt like I couldn't cope, I would head down to Pine Island Beach, sit in the small parking lot and just look at the Gulf. I would take a book and I just found it released a lot of emotions and I could cope again. There is also a beautiful stretch on the road that you can walk.

Pine Island Beach is located in Weeki Wachee, Hernando County off of SR 50. Take 50W to Pine Island Drive (there is a neat neighborhood restaurant Bayport Inn on the corner) and take a right and follow the road to the end. This time of year there is no fee to park. Go relax and have lunch at Bayport Inn.
