More 'Green' in the Home Puts More 'Green' in Your Pocket
January 21, 2009

In an effort to lower energy costs and become more environmentally friendly, energy efficient appliances, building materials purchased from local suppliers and water efficient faucets are becoming a top priority among home buyers. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) the average green homebuyer will spend $12,400, on an average, for green features within the home.

It is no big secret that going green will cost you money up front, but it will save you money in the long run. If you choose to live the 'greener' way, there are tax credits and other incentives to green housing which makes it a little easier for homeowners to move in that direction! The Florida Department of Environmental Protection offers a Renewable Grant Program and Renewable Tax Credits. Tampa Electric, in Hillsborough County, offers a Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate Program that includes an energy audit that will allow you to identify where you may be wasting energy.

With the new administration heading in a green direction, residential homeowners will more than likely witness many more of these incentive type programs, keep your eyes peeled!
