Every year almost five million Americans need a blood transfusion. To meet that demand, blood centers have to collect 305,000 blood donations a year. That’s approximately 836 donors a day. Just to supply the hospitals in North Florida it takes about 1,000 donors a week. With school being out for the summer, blood donations have dropped, but, the demand continues. It is estimated that only 4 percent of Americans donate regularly. If that figure could be increased by 1 percent, that would alleviate shortages. I would encourage you to visit one of the local blood centers and donate. If you can’t visit a local branch, I have listed a few mobile locations for your convenience. To donate, you must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with written parental permission. You have to weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. A photo ID is required. For additional information, please contact (888) 795-2707. They can answer any questions you may have. Donate blood and help save a life..
