Lazy Lakes RV Park in Monroe County has been spared
April 27, 2010

Lazy Lakes RV Resort in Sugarloaf Key, Monroe County, Florida was an endangered 28-acre campground not too long ago! The property was set for condo construction, but due to the recession, construction has been halted!  Many campgrounds in The Keys are looked upon as the perfect property for development, due to the unique tropical landscaping found only in the Florida Keys.

Many locals are pleased that Lazy Lakes has been spared!  Centered around a 7 acre, saltwater lake, created by Henry Flaglers workers and used for fill for the railroad, this location has become home to an abundance of marine life, including lobster!

In an effort to make up for the loss of income, owner Joe Cleghorn has brought another taste of the Keys into Lazy Lakes; a tiki hut stage, with quite a line up of entertainment! His dream is to make Lazy Lakes a venue for music festivals.  Cleghorn views the campground as "sort of a poor man's version of The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park & Campground in Live Oak."  The tiki hut stage rests on a small island ON the lake!  Many listeners crowd together to watch the bands, while other watch from their RV sites.  Nearly 9,000 people came together to watch the first four concerts!

You won't want to miss the next show either, it is sceduled to take place on March 20, 2010, and is headlined by The Paul Cotton Band!  Paul Cotton was once a singer, songrwriter and guitarist with the band Poco from the '70's.

So come on down, kick your shoes off, grab a margarita and enjoy a taste of the Florida Keys!
