Investors go for T-bills; where do you go?
December 9, 2009

Interest rates have never been lower; they are over 1% lower at this time than a year ago and the reason is the mind-set of investors along with the fact that they have made big gains in 2009.

The stock market has risen by 25% and as the interest rates declined, the value of T-bills increased because these same investors were looking for a “safe” place to park their funds. Short term Treasuries, those that come due in 2010, have actually been selling at a negative yield lately because investors were willing to pay just to know their money was “safe” parked there.

Also, the crisis in Dubai has added to the search by investors to find “safe havens” for their money and the fact that Dubai World, a corporation backed by the Dubai government, sought to delay an interest payment on $60 billion American dollars of its debt, also added to the rush toward Treasury securities for these investors.

And, the fact that there are still so many short sales and foreclosures and the fact that a quarter of American homes have negative equity also contributed greatly toward pushing investors towards T-bills, which, brings me to say that this all leads me to one obvious conclusion and that is that now, today, is the best time for anyone with a brain and a little gambling-blood (very little needed, actually) to invest in real estate; believe me the interest rates and prices will never get any better.

Now, let me go look for that investment myself. Remember, everybody needs to eat and everybody needs a home to live in; so, if you’re not a farmer …
