Brooksville landmark closed its doors
April 11, 2010

Rogers Christmas House, which was considered to be the largest tourism magnet in Hernando County has closed its doors. George Rogers, of Brooksville, is still the principle owner. The owner said the store closed because he could not maintain insurance and power on the property. The Christmas house is famous for its large inventory of Christmas decorations and collectibles. The business closed its doors Thursday afternoon. The owner is still telling his friends and neighbors he plans to reopen soon. This isn’t the first time Rogers' Christmas House was forced to shut its doors. In early 2007, because of the finances, the store closed for a period of time. It has been a landmark for generations. I remember my grandmother talking about making a day trip to the Christmas house. It was an all day event back then. She said they would ride a bus to get there from Pinellas County, eat lunch and drink cocoa. It seemed to be a very good memory for her. I am sure a lot of people have shared similar experiences there. All we can do is hope they get everything sorted out and reopen soon.
